10/2026 – Thinking Forward

Someday, a time will come when I/we will no longer have cats, or better said, a time will come when no cat calls us their own. Currently, we have 3 left after a lifetime of being owned by 45 different and individual cats over the course of 40+ years of rescuing, fostering and adopting. 2 are 14 years old as of this entry and 1 just turned 13.

Our time with cats will come to an end after the passing of these final 3, who call us their servants, not because we want it to be that way, but because Mr. Cole has advancing Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for which there’s no cure. It’s a time-consuming disease and one that is exhausting, frustrating, painful and very, very expensive, all going on at once, every moment of every day, while the sufferer is losing the ability to do, quite literally, everything. As his primary caregiver, I’ve had to handle more things by myself than I ever imagined I would have to. There remains a very long list of things I will need to deal with, alone, and learn before it’s over, and that includes continuing to work a full time job.

It seems we’ve both become a little addicted to having a roof over our heads, and electricity, and running water, and all the trappings of life. Someone has to pay for all those things, and it would seem that task has fallen on me.

I am 70 years old. Mr. Cole is 10 years younger than I. Pray for us.
